Dr. Samira Benali

ABOUT

As a dedicated polymer engineer and sustainable materials scientist, I specialize in addressing environmental challenges through innovative research and project management. My work focuses on developing eco-friendly materials and exploring the impact of microplastics and the plastisphere on ecosystems.

Currently, I coordinate the FEDER UP_PLASTICS project, which promotes the valorization of plastics in sustainable housing renovation, and lead the ARES Aquaculture project, focusing on the valorization of arthropod biomass for aquaculture and water treatment applications. With a strong commitment to the principles of the circular economy and bioeconomy, I aim to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world applications.

I am also the editor-in-chief of the Special Issue « Microplastics in Natural Ecosystems and Innovative Solutions for Mitigation » in the journal Coatings (link), contributing to the global dialogue on microplastic pollution and sustainable solutions.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration and open science advocacy, I strive to drive impactful research and foster sustainable innovations. My work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focusing on responsible consumption and production, climate action, and life on land and below water.
